Brief Description: The Global Fund for Children works to transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. The Fund provides small grants to innovative community-based organizations and harnessing the power of children’s books, films and documentary photography to promote global understanding. Deprived of parental love and protection in their formative years, while also losing financial support, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) faced physical, emotional, and economic risks: hunger, mental illness, school dropout, and exploitation. Children already teetering on the edge of extreme poverty.

Vulnerable children tend to be more malnourished or to have received insufficient health care. This negatively affects school enrolment, attendance and performance (Robson & Sylvester ; Barnett & Whiteside ). Orphans and other vulnerable children often have to do a lot of household tasks before and after school. In Fiscal Year , over million orphans and vulnerable children and their families received care and support through PEPFAR-supported programs. OVC programs enable the delivery of vital health and social services that are critical to improving HIV prevention, care, and treatment, thus contributing directly to the UNAIDS goals.
